United Project Solutions was engaged to refurbish two X-ray rooms within the Emergency Department at Austin Hospital, delivering the works within an extremely tight programme and a live clinical environment where imaging services had to remain operational throughout the project. The refurbishment included staged demolition and reconstruction works, lead-lined door installations, structural modifications, electrical and mechanical upgrades, fire services alterations, medical imaging infrastructure, finishes, and all associated builder's works required to accommodate new GE Healthcare imaging equipment.
The project was delivered in two carefully planned stages, ensuring one X-ray room remained fully operational while the other was refurbished. With no allowance for extensions of time and zero tolerance for defects, meticulous planning, detailed programming and close collaboration with Austin Health, GE Healthcare, consultants and specialist subcontractors were essential to achieving each milestone and maintaining the overall programme.
Working within a live Emergency Department required stringent infection control procedures, temporary hoardings, dust containment systems and carefully managed access to protect patients, staff and adjacent clinical areas. Every activity was coordinated to minimise disruption while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality and compliance.
The result is two modern diagnostic imaging suites delivered on programme, defect free and ready for immediate commissioning, providing Austin Health with enhanced imaging facilities that support improved patient care within one of Victoria's busiest emergency departments.
