United Project Solutions delivered the installation and replacement of two separate emergency generators at Austin Health’s Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital, strengthening essential service resilience across the campus.

Delivered in collaboration with Austin Health (Principal), Linea Tecnica Architects, M & T Consulting Engineers Pty Ltd, and LGP Electrical Services Pty Ltd, the generator installation contractor, the project required close coordination between all stakeholders to ensure seamless integration within a live healthcare environment.

The works comprised:

• Central Production Unit (CPU) – installation of a new emergency generator.

• Boiler House – replacement and decommissioning of the existing generator.

Careful staging and programming were essential to maintain hospital operations while upgrading these critical systems.

An early works package was undertaken for both locations to bring the generator rooms into compliance, including demolition, structural alterations, construction of anti-rooms, fire-rated door installations, concrete infill slabs, and associated builders works including extensive roofing modifications. This approach streamlined permit requirements and allowed the electrical contractor to focus solely on the generator installations.

Externally, the project included substantial civil and structural works such as reinforced concrete slabs and plinths, bored piers, bulk excavation, heavy-duty steel stairs and landings, protective concrete bollards, and reinstatement works.

The scope also incorporated fire detection and alarm upgrades, emergency and exit lighting integration, general lighting and power installations, testing and commissioning, and independent certification in accordance with relevant Australian Standards.

Through collaborative delivery and meticulous coordination, the project achieved two compliant, durable, and future-ready emergency power solutions that ensure the ongoing operational continuity of this important healthcare facility.
