United Project Solutions was engaged as the nominated builder for the delivery of a new public amenities facility within Fitzroy Gardens, one of Melbourne’s premier heritage landscapes.
The project involved demolition of the existing toilet block and construction of a modern, fully accessible facility designed to meet contemporary compliance standards. Positioned on the boundary of multiple governing authorities, the site required extensive stakeholder coordination, including Parks Victoria, the City of Melbourne, Department of Transport Victoria and VicRoads, ensuring all approvals and interfaces were carefully managed.
Delivered within a high-traffic public environment, the works demanded meticulous planning to manage road closures, pedestrian movements and minimal disruption to park users. Tree protection measures were paramount, with strict controls implemented to preserve the surrounding mature landscape.
Significant complexities were encountered below ground, including latent conditions and major inground services such as high-voltage electrical infrastructure and NBN assets. Detailed investigation, careful excavation methodologies and ongoing coordination were essential to avoid service disruption. Additional challenges included resolving non-compliant existing City Power infrastructure and integrating compliant DDA ramps that seamlessly tie into the existing footpath network.
The facility also incorporates a custom precast concrete panel design, adding architectural interest while meeting durability requirements for a high-use public asset.
Through careful planning, authority coordination and proactive problem-solving, United Project Solutions successfully delivered a high-quality, compliant and robust community facility within one of Melbourne’s most significant public gardens.
